Walking Tour of Fourth Ward
Experience a Victorian past with
this tour through Charlotte's Fourth Ward. These homes,
built from the 1880's to the 1930's, were owned by
the area's wealthy merchants, ministers, physicians
and civic leaders. On your walk, you may see:
- Berryhill House: Restoration
of the house was led by the Junior League in 1976.
- Overcarsh House: Lovely 'Queen
Anne'-style home of a famous ghost (special arrangements
can be made to visit this home).
And many other
wonderful homes in this turn-of-the-century neighborhood.
- Bootleggers' House: Hear
tales of the days of prohibition and the illustrious
folks who lived in this area.
- Evidence and charm of the prosperous
Victorian days: Stately homes, gingerbread decoration,
stained-glass windows, flower-filled planters and
wide rail verandahs.
Come bring your group and enjoy
strolling through our past!
